On March 2, 1925, Peoples National Bank was officially opened. Organized by a few local people, this small-town bank began with $25,000 in capital and a surplus of $5,000. Surviving during a period of financial uncertainty, Peoples National Bank was directed to assist with the problems confronting many people in the banks service area.
“Honesty and service” was the motto for Peoples National Bank when it was opened. Its information described the bank as the beginning of a new life for Hayward. Allowing the local people to develop a lasting relationship with the bank and its staff was thought to bring a new confidence back into the local community. In April, 1991, Peoples National Bank was purchased by Michael J. O’Meara.
Several years later the need to expand the single Hayward location became evident. In 1996, the doors of the Eau Claire bank proudly opened. In 2002 the bank changed its name to Peoples Bank of Wisconsin to better represent the direction the bank had set for itself. On May 7, 2007, an affiliate Bank was opened in Maplewood, MN. Started as a denovo, Summit Community Bank had 8 employees and continued to grow while serving this northern St. Paul suburban community.
On December 11, 2013, Summit Community Bank merged into Peoples Bank of Wisconsin and the combined locations were renamed Peoples Bank Midwest. This merger between the three locations brought the total number of employees working for Peoples Bank Midwest to 60. In December 2016, the Maplewood location moved into a new location in Vadnais Heights, MN.
Each location of Peoples Bank Midwest continues to offer financial guidance and assistance to its dedicated customers and to uphold the motto and tradition of our founders. Customer satisfaction and individualized financial solutions remain the most important elements of our success. Our motto is “People You Know…People You Trust”.
We are large enough to provide comprehensive banking and lending solutions, yet small enough to know your name. Convenience, quality service and assistance, kindness and respect are attributes customers deserve. It is the goal of Peoples Bank Midwest to continue providing these qualities long into the future.
Peoples Bank Midwest is owned by the Michael O’Meara family.
